The first one is pretty obvious, but animal cruelty and anti-intillectualism? How did she promote those? I'm not doubting you, I actually just don't know about it. I never watched her show (I like sautéing in butter as much as the next guy but wtf, seriously.) or really even payed any attention to her, so aside from the huge media buzz just recently, I haven't heard these other things.

Well Paula Deen has recipes for meat products, including veal and other similarly harsely raised livestock. She condones the murder of animals.

The anti-intellectualism was a bit of a stretch, but I feel it has to do with her "down home southern" attitude of "if it ain't butter it aint good for ya!" Meanwhile she has diabetes from promoting obesity for years. My opinion is that Deen rode to prominence on the anti-intellectual redneck apologism train that gave us Larry the Cable Guy and any other seemingly valueless, hate filled simplicity.

I in no way have a problem with southerners, there are equally as many annoying people all over the country. I just hate the mentality.

That's almost precisely what I'm saying. Someone had to murder a cow to eat a hamburger. I didn't say the words "senseless", I just don't care for the promotion of animal abuse. Paula Deen getting fired = one less person who promotes the systematic murder of conscious creatures.

Frankly, I find the simple dismissal of my claim as "stupid" to be stupid in and of itself. Animals are tortured, killed and then drown in butter and sauce in the recipes of an intolerant, fat woman.

Animals are not tortured when killed for food, they are killed quickly.  Painlessly.  And on that note, we are not torturing them, we gave them all a good life.  By providing all the food they could possibly need.  It is a animals are resources for food.

By a good life surely you do not mean overbreeding, cramped cages they cannot move from, fed antibiotics and steroids, and being bred for the sole purpose of killing. That's not a good life by any measurable standards.

Animals are food for some, so are fruits, vegetables and plants. Do we really need to be murdering millions of creatures because they taste good?

Also, being Vegan doesn't make you an animal rights activist. Many people are vegan by choice and could give a rats ass about PETA and the likes.

Doesn't make a difference. By implying that a fetus isn't a conscious is bait, whether intended or not.

Just because some animals are bred that way doesn't mean all are and there are plenty of people who kill their own food hunting/fishing...

And regardless, I think it's a bit silly to degrade her about promoting eating meat among other things when most of the population think along the same lines as her food wise.

To Noided's point. I think that people concerned with the well being of conscious creatures would be concerned with mother of the potential future child. I've purposely left myself out of the abortion conversation because of the extremely opinionated, often religious based and limited amount of discourse that can transpire.

Animals kill animals for food because they have to. The naturalistic argument is a bad one, because we go against what's natural constantly. Indoor plumbing, medicine, hell - even eye glasses disturb the fate our genes selected for us. We can survive without eating animals, and can most certainly survive without factory farming.

I'm not trying to prove I'm right, simply stating that the murder of conscious creatures is what meat eaters are doing. It's up to every individual to come to terms with it; the majority are OK with the proposition.
