So I've been answering questions, posting in general, making decks etc. I've been being downvoted on very corner, I haven't said anying demeaning or cruel or hurtful to anyone, no swearing. But I've been downvoted and not once up voted, what gives? I haven't done any trades and I doubt anyone will because they'll see negative karma and people will downvote for me for no reason. May I ask why this is?

Don't get too frustrated about it, some folks are just trigger happy with the karma for disagreeing with something, I try to not pay attention to it; I had -3 or -4 karma my first week here and then it bounced back. You can find what people rated you down for on your profile/karma - somethings you posted that get "liked" or "disliked" really don't make any sense at all sometimes.

I tend to only dislike posts if they are clearly: Not using the search function; being rude/dismissive to others; or simply not thinking and letting the immature person inside of them speak out loud and clearly.

I honestly have no idea. Some people get a little trigger happy with karma. Honestly try not to worry about it so much, stick around, contribute to the forum, and karma will come when you least expect it. :)

Like someone asked about  {Shattering Blow} and exiling an artifact creature. I told them yes but also said artifact lands can as well and so can  {Inkmoth Nexus} can as well given it became an artifact creature.

I understand I explained more than they asked but I told them because it's related, they were new, and they might have been confused about it in other games.

It bothers me because it hurts my reliability in trading and answering questions. If I get downvoted too much I'll just make a new account, which is going to suck.

Just as people can see the amount of karma you have, they can also see what you've revived karma for and also everything you've posted. I really wouldn't worry too much about that.

I looked at your posts and don't see how you're at -4. It's impossible to censor what you say to make everyone on the forum happy. I'll give you a +1 to set you back on track.

Thanks, gah I'm a good player too, good as in, give cards to someone if they need it, let oppenets go first (unless it's 1st turn combo decks) stuff like that. It just bothers me to come on here and attempt to help only to be downvoted by an anonymous user.

Kareason

I checked over your stuff as well. +1 to help you get back on track. Haven't seen any reason for anything Neg (my opinion).

Double-O-Scotch

Karma scotch to the rescue. Don't worry bro, karma means next to nothing on this forum...just keep doing what you're doing (being helpful with rules, contributing ideas, constructive criticism of posted decks, etc.) and it'll all work out. Just takes awhile for the community to get a feel for you...

I think there is someone or a few someones that go around giving negative karma to anyone they can. I've had negative karma given to me for what I thought was a reasonable answer in rules also... Don't worry about it too much. It doesn't reflect on you as a trader by any means... You just have to establish yourself as trustworthy to get that ball rolling.

Thanks guys, this made my day. I'm happy to hear that it doesn't affect trading and people's opinion on that. That relieves me a lot actually

Yea man i have been having that problem too. I post some fun, great stuff and just get - karma. I even got - karma for something i posted 1 and 1/2 months ago... My opinion could have changed lol

The down vote on the Shattering Pulse was from me. As the current primary Rules mod, I have to make sure that the rules section is nice and organized. One of the best ways to do this is keeping topics short, and precise. If people continue to answer questions that have already been resolved or answered, it could dilute the strength of the answers and potentially bring up more questions (through poor wording, different examples, unneeded scenarios, etc). Your explanation was fine, but the question had already been answered, and I've noticed these comments happening a lot. I absolutely hate giving negative karma, but its my way of saying "I appreciate your effort, but please, refrain from restating already answered questions."

I hope this didnt discourage you in any way, I love to see people helping out, just try and keep in mind: Keeping Rules question topics short and precise is the best way to go. I've seen question restating confuse new players, and we don't want that. Feel free to answer questions, just try to be a bit quicker on the draw 😉
For the record, I hold nothing against you, and hope you enjoy the community of iMtG.

I honestly hate karma, you should build a reputation based on what you do/say not to get some stupid number higher. With the number some people see it and just disregard you, it allows easy trolling because people care way to much about it (see the 3-4 threads the past month about people begging for better karma). That being said it does have it's uses with trading if people only go here to trade or are new and haven't witnessed the reputation a person has made for themselves. Just be yourself, I've seen you be helpful already, don't worry about a silly number.

Keyeto: what about locking a resolved topic in rules?
