They didn't change the wording, from play was the original wording. From the battlefield is the oracle text.

They began using the term "Battlefield" to mean "in play" when M10 was release.  It sounds better, has more flavor (tastes like chicken, yum! :9) and reduces confusion between playing a card and a card in play and such.

The wording on the card is different on the Urza's Legacy and the M13 versions.

Ah okay. Maybe they just update the wording with a reprint.
