For those of you who haven't seen,

Personally I think this is foreshadowing a fetchland reprint in Khans or another block that will be in standard with this. Most likely khans so we can get it out early with Nykthos. ("We" not including me as I'll be playing mono white... :P )

Anyone agree?

Then again, it was also designed by a specific person, so maybe not.

I'm sure they might have given godbooks to the designers so they could have a little bit of context.

Possibly, but there are other "search your library" effects already in standard.  At this CMC I don't really feel like this guy would be super effective at stopping fetches; seems pretty good against things that might happen a bit later on, like {Chord of Calling} or {Liliana Vess}.
First of all, {Liliana Vess} wasn't supposed to be in M15, so that is just a coincidence and you don't get to decide when you draw fetches. If you get a fetchland on turn 7, you have to choose whether you are going to take 10 or just not get a land. Also, there are ways of getting this out early in Modern.

Arbitratur

I speculate that we will go back to zendikar after kahns of tarkir. Bit I do not really think this card is telling us that, if u look at the whole m15 set, they pulled stuff from all the planes. Just look at the "soul" cards to see this.

Core sets are always "plane agnostic". If Ob Nixilis was going to be in a set with fetch's, they'd have to be in the Khan's block. Having them be in the Blood block wouldn't be useful, since they'd only be together for about 3 months.

If they threw Obie into Khans, they would have to explain how he got from Zendikar to Tarkir, as he had lost his spark.

Technically, core sets happen on Shandalar, but they always reference other planes, such as M13 having {Krenko, Mob Boss}. Its not that Krenko is a planewalker, its just a flavor fail on Wizards part.

M13 was kind of awkward.  We have Nefarox from Alara, Talrand from (most likely) Shandalar, Odric from Innistrad and both Krenko and Yeva from Ravnica.

Anyways, this 'Nix is going to be a huge pain, and I'm glad some of my decks have built-in answers.  As for Fetches...  I'm hopeful, but I wouldn't expect it.  Maybe by the end of 2015, we'll see one of the sets of them reprinted.  Maybe earlier.  Who knows.

I agree. I think the wizards planning/development takes place several years (3 or more?) in advance of set releases. The real craze over fetches is only a 3 or so years years old so my guess would be next year. At the earliest.

I would've agreed a few weeks ago, but I heard that {Liliana of the Veil} was going to be in M15 but she was removed because black would be too good. This shows wizards was trying to bring down her value but she's only shot up in the last 9 months or so

Agrus Kos, Enforcer of Truth

Planning happens as far as 7 years in the future with a basic outline of what the next 7 years will look like. A set starts being designed about 2 years before its release and it is handed over about a year before its release.

Wizards has a group they call the 'FutureFuture League', which tests sets while they're in development.  It's totally possible that the original list for M15 included Good Lili, but testing showed it to be too strong in the context of Rav/Theros/M15, so they switched it out.  Now, the only problem with the 'development starts two years before printing' concept is simply the card Waste Not.  I'm fairly sure they simply designated that one card in M15 would be thrown in post-development as the Community card, then started printing after they knew where the collector number would fall.  Or, there's a conspiracy going on where Waste Not was already completely designed and tested in the FFL and the community make-a-card contest was just for show...  Or, between solidifying Waste Not's text (since M15 wasn't sent to the printing press yet), they realized it'd be too good with good Lili and swapped it relatively last-minute.

Just some theories.

Remillo is right. Think about it: {Waste Not}, {Liliana of the Veil}, {Thoughtsieze}, {Mind Rot}, {Brain Maggot}....discard would have been a tier one deck and WoTC doesn't like that.

BUT, you can also tell the want the strategy to at least be viable, which is why they gave us original Lili (with a +1 Discard), instead of Dark Realms, which has been in the past few Core sets.
