Got tabled Xenagod. Lol. Grabbed it of course. Played G/R afterwards and went 2-2, so I was content enough. But then the lgs guys decided to only do top 4 payout, so nothing for me. I was pretty smug, so I grabbed some Journey packs from walmart. Got the foil  {Dictate of Heliod} and some decent uncommons! So it could've been worse! I was content. All around good night.

I asked the same question. Guessing the guy was newish to draft, hadn't caught on to the whole hate drafting concept. And what do you mean by "keeping picks"?

drafts have two types of prize support normally. either its a "keep your picks" draft where whatever you pull you go home with, and there are booster packs or something for first place and usually 2nd-x. the alternative, usually cheaper, variation is a draft where all the rares in the draft pool are the prizes. at the end of the draft all the rares, and foils, are laid out and first place gets first pick 2nd gets 2nd etc. so if you get to keep what you picked passing xenagod seems bad. if the rares were the prizes than it seems more reasonable to pass him.

Could have been a better foil.

FustyDavorite

Ahh yes we keep picks. I've never drafted in that alternative way. Nor heard of it.

the idea behind it is says its pack three, you open a pack with a 20 dollar card not in your colors and a bomb in your colors.  if your playing for picks you will be more likely to pick the on color bomb and build a better deck than just grab the value and have less playables.

Interesting. I don't know how I feel about that. When MMA was released I went to a draft and pulled a {Vendilion Clique}. Naturally, I kept it and never played it. Say we were doin the alternative draft, I'd have passed it, but then what happens if I either don't win, or some ass plays without sleeves and damages it, or something alon that lines?  Then I'm just out that $70 card. I don't think I'd like drafting like that...

But say your deck was terrible. then it was complete luck that you got the clique. drafting the way i mentioned provides for people focusing more on building the best deck they can rather than just grabbing all the value.  and in terms of them potentially damaging your card, the way it works at my shop is we all agree that if we play with any valuable cards we will sleeve them up since they are not our property until the draft is over anyway.  i just think with the drafting method that you play,  if pack 1 you get the most expensive foil rare and the most expensive rare, your not really inclined to keep drafting, since its unlikely you would do better than those two cards, so you might as well just get up from the table and take your value. in my draft version, the incentive is on building the best deck (and piloting it well), so people dont just get their value and leave halfway through a draft.

TreeSmoker

The way defying works at my lgs

You do the passing but you keeps 45 cards (not land) and they prize out packs to 1st 2nd 3rd and 8th

My problem with picks is I rarely open anything awesome & seeing how my MM drafts went, glad I got to keep my cards

Usually pick drafts are $10 but Id rather pay $5 more and know I get to keep what I pull from the draft.

You're not out the clique because it was never yours in the first place

TreeSmoker

The way i look at it
You buy the cards that get passed to you. That's the reason why my lgs charges $11 for a draft. So if you pass a $70 card up there youre out of money.

right the idea is you earn it by drafting and piloting well. instead of earning it just because you cracked the pack.
