I think the elemental will be great for times when you try to {Murder} (or something) their {Fiend Hunter} and they flicker it with {Restoration Angel}. Instead of having your spell go to waste, you can just feed it to your guy.

This, for sure. It's a savior for a stack kill.

Kinda costly but really cool.

Maybe foreshadowing a {Underworld Dreams} for Dimir?

I predict this becoming a tournament staple. As well as sideboard {Ghost Quarter} to combat it...

Staple not so much, you lose a land for its ability, it does tap. Costs 3. But it jives well with {Liliana of the Dark Realms}. Card advantage is always sweet. It might see some play, seems more like a limited card for now.

ChrisRodriguez

I see it being used in {B} based control builds as a 2 of. It makes a land give you a free draw at instant speed. If your not going to use the land for mana just use it to draw. As far as being a staple; probably just a card used in control decks. Card advantage wins you games.

It's not a stable. I'd give it a C+. It seems (famous last words) abuse-proof. 2 of is fine. I don't love it taking up a rare spot (I don't know how I feel about opening it up and drafting it).

I'd add it to my exalted deck. Slap it on {Cathedral of War}. My deck has virtually no card draw and gains life with {vampire nighthawk}

I think it is jank and would never run it....there I finally said it 😁. It is a decent late game card at best and is too risky of a card to put in any competitive build.  Sure it replaces itself and then some, eventually, but what do you do with it on the early turns?

Just think of it as a {Phyrexian arena} that can be used when you want to. Instant speed arena sounds like fun. If we're gonna grade the card I give it a B-

Art A+ card C-
I would like it with just a {B}{B} casting cost

Um, hey guys.  Remember {arbor elf} exists.  Enchant a forest or a shock land and you can get two cards a turn.

Coffee Vampire

@ cltrn exactly what I thought when I saw the cost lol.

But despite evverything, I am going to try it on cockatrice when rtr comes out and see how things go. Maybe a good 1 of or 2 of especially against control decks. Horrible against zombie decks.

BlackJester

Coffee, you'd spend {6} for a {Staff of Nin}. 😜

I like the {Arbor Elf} idea.

For 4 CMC, it replaces itself, so you don't need to worry as much about 2 for 1s.

Lastly, Dude, I'd rather have one of these at rare then a WHOLE bunch at uncommon. They often put cards you don't want to see to much of in a draft at rare.

ChrisRodriguez

{Underworld connections} is replacing {staff of nin} in my standard control decks.
