The guidelines for this contest are simple.
To enter, all you need to do is come up with a card and post your idea in this thread. There are certain rules pertaining to the cards you can create.
1. The idea is not to make a broken as .poo. card.
2. The card must have synergy with a certain deck or card in standard at the moment. And you must say which card or deck it is designed to be. For example you could create a card specifically meant to complement Thassa.
3. I will choose the winner based on how the card fits with what it was designed to complement and if it's useful, not how broken it is.
This will be an ongoing contest with a weekly winner, and occasionally I will throw in an extra guideline, like it has to be a {G}{U} card, but it has to work with a {R} card.
The winner each week will have their card created and posted for the forum to see!
Week 1: The card cannot be an Enchantment or an Artifact.
Errm. Designed this one to work with {Daxos of Meletis} and {Nightveil Specter}.

b) I don't actually draw anything, I am using a digital program using images from the Internet...because I can't draw for my life.
Although I suppose you could suggest something along with the idea for the card just in case you win.

This is a good idea, so maybe I'll make it where if you win one week, you can't win the next...but you can still post a card.
So in answer to Kurama's question, ultimately yes, but not in consecutive weeks.

well. MaRo had said that red can't destroy enchantments because it can't grasp things that are not tangible. Which makes sense because red operates out of emotions and an earthly mind. Though red sacrifices long term gain for short term gain

I feel that the Legendary Spider Lord should be comprised of Red and Green, with maybe Black as the Splash color. With that in mind, here goes:
1GGGRRB - Kiba, Aranacus Lord of Jund
Legendary Creature - Spider
Rarity: Mythic Rare
Abilities: Vigilance, Deathtouch, Reach
Other spiders you control have Vigilance and Deathtouch, and must be blocked, if possible (i.e. Lure)
Power/Toughness: 7/9
P.S. Kiba is Japanese for Fang
Watch tribal spiders become a thing...
I hope, so I can finally build Commander Deck with them. Think the cost/abilities are a good match?
The multi color costs make the card balanced.

Somehow I feel like 2/1 is too small. I think 2/2 is ok and not pushing it too much (see white archetype)

It's not a real card, but I was just thinking about modern where mana fixing is easy and where something like this would be EXTREMELY good with {bitterblossom}, especially turn 2. It would also be really good against burn decks, so I was thinking that making it wait until turn 4 to get a bitterblossom activation would be fairer. But whatever, it's your card ;)

If you hit 2 of the same basic then it's a dud, but commander is mostly a singleton format so it's designed for commander. The ridiculous mana cost (in red white and blue nonetheless) is somewhat hard to get to.

ive always wondered what the converted mana cost of these cards was. Would this be a converted mana cost of anywhere between 7 and 10. Or is it always 10, no exceptions other than cost reduction

Hey thanks for changing it for me. Im not the best with rulings.
Anytime!
If it wins. I'm sure it'd look pretty cool.
Btw instant wouldn't say "once per combat", but "Cast only during combat". Enchantment old say once per ;)
Well with the way it worded now i would probably make it an enchantment. But the reason i want it to be colorless is so it can be used in all commander deck
Trivasta, the Faceless Clone {U}{U}{3}
Legendary Creature
{U}{U}{1}: Activate this ability only if Trivasta, the Faceless Clone is in your command zone; Search you library for a permanent, and exile it, Trivasta, Faceless Clone is now a copy of the exiled card, and gains this ability.
Whenever Trivasta, the Faceless Clone enters the battlefield, you may choose a permanent, if you do, Trivasta, the Faceless Clone becomes a copy of that permanent.
0/0

Screwed up wording a bit here, but I couldn't think of a better way to put it.
Trivasta's first ability basically says, search your library for a permanent, now Trivasta is that permanent, and it is now basically your commander, until you activate that effect again when it is in the command zone. However that card you searched is exiled forever, even if you change permanents. Trivasta gain's it's mana cost too, that way your not paying {U}{U}{3} for a {Karn Liberated}. The second ability makes it so that if you haven't activated the first ability at all, then it clones a permanent.
Quote from: Taysby on February 13, 2014, 09:31:26 AM
Make it keep it's mana cost though, otherwise they would exile a {memnite}, play it for free! and copy the eldrazi for a total of 3 mana
No the first ability can only be activated in the command zone, and the second ability goes away if it copies something with the first ability.
Plus, imagine copying an Ulamong and playing it for {U}{U}{3}. I don't think you will have many friends after that.
I know, and that could be a change worth considering, but I made it to be adaptable, because when you need some mana, I would love to just search for a {Sol Ring} in my deck, and suddenly I can have my nice {Sol Ring} :)
Knowledge Exortion: {3}{B}{B}
Sorcery
Each opponent chooses to draw a card or take 2 damage, then repeats this process 4 more times. Draw a card for each card an opponent draws this way.
—————————————————————
This gets better the more opponents you have, letting you deal up 10 damage to each or draw a ton of cards.

Yeah, I know Ushio doesn't do much and has a lot of balancing clauses, but I wanted to explore the design space of having a land as a general. Also, he doesn't have much black in his design, but I wanted a land-friendly ability.
If you guys have any suggestions, I welcome them. I'm thinking about making this a cycle.
Try making it so he is a color, because at the moment, this card is colorless. Make it say it is junk colors! :)

In commander, all mana symbols on a card are part of its identity, so a deck built around Usio would be junk colors.

Exactly. I designed him kind of like the Treefolk in Lorwyn block. I gave him a big ass, so he could work with Doran, while still being useful as a commander himself. I feel like he needs more abilities, but he already has a lot of text as is, so I figured I'd leave him like this for now.
Wow, I feel so stupid. I haven't played commander in a long time.

I don't really have time for this right now, so I haven't really been able to do anything, if you or someone else wants to take over and continue the contest in a new thread, or still in this one that would be cool...
Here's my mechanic for this round
Ectoplasm-- when this creature is put into the graveyard from anywhere, you may pay {B}. If you do, put a 1/1 black spirit creature token on the battlefield
Prosper- Whenever another creature enters the battlefield that shares one or more creature types with this creature, you may pay X, where X is the amount of creatures you control times 2. If you do, something happens.
For example, it could be something like out a token onto the battlefield, put X counters on this creature, or you gain 3 life. It could be anything like that.
Vehemency 3 - Whenever a player casts a spell that shares a color with this creature, this creature deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
Is someone taking this over.
My bro came up with this one, it's a new type of mana.
It's negative mana, it would look like -{G}
When you cast it, add that much negative to your mana pool, but it would have some really crappy effect.
Like this,
Slickaren (A bad name tho) -{B}
Creature- Snake
When Slickaren enters the battlefield, you lose 3 life.
1/1
I suppose I'll take over judging. Don't know when I'll start the judging process for this round, though.
Parasite{3}{B}
Parasitic creature
Lifetap- when ever this creature is casted fron your hand you may chose a player. That player gets. At the beginning of that players upkeep, that player may choose to tap all of there land if they do they gain X life where X is equal to the amount of lands that tapped.
Whenever an opponent gains life you gain double X. Where X is the amount of life they gained . 2/2

To simplify things, I'll judge on Fridays. So Round 5 will start as soon as I post the winner.

Put all creatures on top of their owner's libraries. Each player shuffles their library.

Sorry I didn't deliver the results on Friday like I said. I was busy.
The winner of this round is Mishra, with his Prosper mechanic! I like how it makes use of creature types, which are so often ignored. It gives a boost to tribal decks, which are often fun to see work.
The next challenge is... *drum roll* ... Planechase! Instead of making regular old cards, we're going to be making Plane cards and Phenomenon cards!
For those of you who don't play Planechase, a Plane card has at least one static or triggered ability that applies to all players and a Chaos ability that triggers whenever someone rolls the chaos symbol on the planar die. A Phenomenon card is like a Sorcery card for the planar deck: It's a one-shot effect that triggers when you planeswalk to it and planeswalks away when it finishes resolving. I can post examples if need be.
Design away!
