Anyone a fan of the Discworld series? I picked the first book up today. Seems pretty good. I like linking arcs and sub-arcs.

Oh my friend you are in for a treat! Terry Pratchet is a solid writer! Recommend you read them in order. Don't have to, but the more you learn backstory of the various characters, the more enjoyable each book is. Death is awesome. God they're such great stories lol. Definitely appeals to lovers of MTG

Mike! My favorite fantasy books next to Tolkien. Welcome to a great series. I second Hays with one little caveat: read Guards! Guards! As soon as possible. All those guards books were awesome! One other thing: I'll admit the first few books were fun but a bit sloppy on the plot and harder to follow. Pratchett hits his stride after just a few books so stick with it.

From what I've heard, reading them in chronological order is like Lost. Plot points jump all over the map. Regardless, I'm excited to read the series. I've been reading comics lately, and those aren't cost effective. $20 for a TPB that I can blaze through in a day versus a $10 novel that I can read in a week.

That chart sums it up nicely. I read through a bunch of the city watch in that order and then switched to the witches part way through and then tried some death books before going back and finishing the watch books. As long as you read each the next book of a series sequentially you can bounce around between the witches, rincewind, etc.
On a sad note, I remember that Pratchett announced he has Alzheimer's but he plans on writing until the disease stops him.

Those seem very interesting. I really need to start reading again, my brain feels dull. I stopped halfway in one of my books about a year and a half ago and haven't went back. There's been so much going on though...On another note, have any of you read The Chronicles of the Black Company series? I stopped halfway on 5, but damn those books are sweet. The Night Angel Trilogy is also excellent, as well a Whitechapel Gods, one of my favorite books.

Well if we can plug our fav authors too I must recommend Garth nix (abhorsen trilogy) and Phillip Pullman (His dark materials) as well as Orsen scott card (Ender series). Always been a fan of reading, and after graduating I don't do enough of it, my head feels dull too, so I'll have to pick some of these up. May 06, 2013, 08:13:28 AM

Woah, cool. Are they cartoons or made for TV or something? Ill have to check it out.
