I think its likely a Merfolk PW, such as Kiora, will get a printing soon. After all, we are getting a Merfolk lord in M13.

I dunno, that's like saying we've already had a human PW.  Her species isn't as important since her abilities would be aligned to accelerating into massive {G}{U} beasts.  Very different than a lord.  Or, they could work together.

It's extremely fast in legacy. Very good card. And widely used.

Zero life for {Mox Jet} or land.  Trading life for card advantage is nearly always a good deal ({Necropotence} I'm 👀 at you). Plus it's on legs, so you can swing for 2.
