Arid mesa is just a fetch land. Fetch lands thin deck. Plus shuffle etc. I don't know anything about commander so yeah. I picked avacyn because it's an angel deck primarily and indestructible everything? Yes please.

Color identity of cards in Commander only care about mana symbols. {Arid Mesa} doesn't sport any mana symbols and therefore doesn't have a color identity.

Avacyn is cool, I agree, and can be playable in a somewhat casual metagame. Big creatures with big mana costs are usually the bread and butter of Commander, so it's not unthinkable for her to be your commander. Points to worry about: she draws attention when she hits the field, so you'll usually want to be able to survive and win against all of your opponents when she's out and about. Another thing is that she might be indestructible, but she is susceptible to bouncing, exiling and {Pasificsm}-tricks. And the attention she gets will make her a target for this. You mentioned her yourself and I think you might really want Linvala for commander. She comes out faster, draws a bit less attention and she stops a lot of annoying shenanigans from happening.

No problem.
But don't be discouraged about Avacyn. I think that she's definately viable in a fun-driven and somewhat slower environment. And if you like her, then that's what's most important, IMO. Greg54js is right as well, lot'sa stuff can protect her in white and artifacts.

Ah btw, you have 100 cards plus your commander. The commander does count into the 100 cards total, so you'll have to cut something I'm afraid.
Edit: might I suggest {Angelic Voices}? You don't play artifact creatures to make it work, I think.
