I have a feeling blue will get an "exile target spell" counter to deal with all of these "can't be countered" deals.

Yeah cuz it seems like they r not showing very much blue...so either they just said screw it we gave blue it's time to shine and now we don't care about it now, or they have big blue cards they r waiting to spring on us. I am betting on the second one.

I don't agree with "blue can finally take a back seat" sentiment. Blue strategy has rewarded patience and card advantage for awhile, which is why Izzet, Azorius, Dimir and Simic are the most popular guilds.

Players like playing blue, it's a playstyle, it's an important part of the game. Uncounterable spells are just silly, and it's not really what makes the game great.

I don't think that a few spells that can not be countered is going to kill blue. They even gave one to U/W. I would have loved to see this in the zendakar block then U\W Mirror matchs would matter be determend by who could keep they {sphinx of jwar isle} alive with their counter spells.

Harmon74

I like {syncopate}.  That's a solid counter.

I agree with this. Uncounterable spells should not be part of this game. I think by doing this it makes the game easier for new players. "look you can play that card without any fear...just like yugiho".

blue is unquestionably the best colour ever in the history of magic. It is simply because of its ability to counterspells and manipulate its library that makes it so.

They have to break the rules of card games to make it so that blue will not be the best colour; which is something I am not upset to see since I hate blue.

The greatest decks have been stopped by Blue. Turn 1 kills are stopped by {Force of Will}. Blue decks need to be able to counter, it's what they do. Standard will have {Dissipate} still, {Negate} and {Essence Scatter}. I don't see the benefit to not letting spells be countered, and not allowing blue to play its strengthens.

I'm not suggesting reprint {counterspell} or {mana leak} (although I don't understand why not). They're changing blue into tapping target creature, and that is fine, but it needs to be able to draw and counter too. There will be no shortage of burn spells, lose life/gain life, ramp, and good weenies.

Ok so all this talk about a few cards that cant be countered is making me wonder what you guys thought about how way overpowered thrun the last troll was going to be when he was first spoiled. How scared we're you guys about a 4/4 that is kinda hard to kill. I'm mean he sounds really op. I mean he must still be rampant. But he isn't. I actually never saw him in to many decks. people got around him with what ever they had in hand or on field. The new day will be used mainly against decks that don't run counters, then there is a new {smother} I guess you will lose a delver. The G/W rhino he doesnt have hexproof or regen. Any other ones I'm missing? To sum it up, how is blue going to die?

Sorry for the rant.  But I just don't see how a few cards will kill an entire color.

BlackJester

I think this is setting up for some intense Izzet/Azorius Counterspell action. Or serious Snappy & {Judge's Familliar} hate.

Mikefrompluto

I never understood why people get so upset about uncounterable cards. I just always thought "okay I have to test myself and figure out something different to take care of it." Isn't that what Magic is all about after all?

Coffee Vampire

There's hate for everything in this set. Creature hate and spell hate and counterspell hate. Nobody should complain.

I plan for discard to be a part of my game plan this coming october. I won't complain about giving them a free 4/4. I'll just deal with the little bastard when he resolves.

Do you run esper control? Counter their spells and as for the uncounterable ones (like...all 4 of them), deal with them when they resolve. You play control. Be creative and don't squeal when you can't counter something. If you play grixis control you have no excuse. You have access to all the removal spells you want.

Dudecore

It's not the cards themselves, they're not invincible super cards that will change the game, it's the fact they exist that troubles me. I understand they want you to drop a cool 15/15 creature because thats fun and exciting for new players, but you're removing necessary strategy from the game.

Exactly.

Inaja

If you don't like the card, don't play it.

Coffee Vampire

I think out of all the uncounterables, the rhino may reign supreme. The new DoJ can't be countered, but control usually isn't high on creatures anyways.

The rhino is good against blue AND black control. Pretty good. Plus it's like obliterator...more PT than the CMC. I wouldn't mind making a junk deck that lets you discard him to get him out early. Pox anyone?
