Like the deck. Is there a reason it's not a mono black mana base though?

I was wondering the same thing but I also like the deck....very original IMO.

I think the idea is to use them for the {Strata Scythe}.  May work alright in mutliplayer, but I don't know if it's worth it.

Strata Scythe is why there are other lands. The drawback is actually drawing those lands that's really the last thing I want. I'm thinking of changing to a white base and going with some puresteel paladin, 2 land tax and some white kill cards removing the unmake, lasherithe and nightmare lash.
