If I have a {Festering Evil} on the BF, can I have it do 3 dmg to my opponent's planeswalker instead of the player when I do the 2nd ability?

KulrathKnight

I think you'd only be able to damage the PW instead of the player if you are targeting that player. Since the spell doesn't target, you can't. I could be wrong though.

Just check 306.7.
He's got the rule book memorized
Ha! Not yet. I just refer to MTGJudge app. I'd recommend it.

For some reason I was thinking that since the enchantment's controller had to damage each player & creature the it couldn't be redirected.

I guess even after 17 years of playing I can still get it wrong

Thanks for the clarification

scarsabrex

just remember if you're at 3 and have a planeswalker and festering evil you can't blow up the evil and redirect te damage to your pw.

Bilygote

I know the opponent determines where their damage go

scarsabrex

nope the opponent doesn't either, you just die. you can only redirect damage to a planeswalker if it is headed towards your opponent and you control the source.

So in this case where 3 damage is coming to the opponent.  You can redirect it to a PW they control.  Could you redirect just 2 of it or is it all or nothing?  I think all or nothing.....just want to see what you guys think.

Greg54js

Damage is all or nothing unless it has an {inferno Titan} type of effect

Right...I just didn't know if it was different in regards to transferring damage from the player to a PW.  Since you have to target the player.....I was unsure if the rules allowed you to seperate the damage at that point.

Bilygote

That was part of the point of my question about {Festering Evil} the damage isn't targeted. All creatures and players are taking the damage.
