How does {wild growth} work? It says add like I have to add 1 mana, so it makes me think that even if I don't have a mana in my hand I add 1. Also, does it add it to my mana pool meaning I would have to use it or it dies?

It sounds to me like you are confusing mana and land.  You can't have mana in your hand, only land cards.

So, let's say that you have a {Mountain} on the battlefield and it is enchanted by {Wild Growth}.  Anytime you tap the mountain for 1 red mana, you would also add one green mana to your mana pool.  If you don't spend it by the end of the step, it will be taken out of your mana pool.

Does that clear things up?
