Would I be able to play {fog} then in response play {divine deflection } which would let me deal X damage then prevent the rest of the damage with {fog}?

Greg54js

I believe the answer is yes. Just be careful with how you stack the abilities

Gorzo

I think you can. If deflection resolves first, the damage prevented should be prevented by deflection first, yes? Then the remaining damage would go to the {fog} once deflection can absorb no more.

I think.

If you go {fog} then respond with {divine deflection} it will work. If you stack it the other way the deflection will fizzle

stack doesntmatter replacement effects go in the order the controler chooses. so it works the way you want it too.

There was a similar topic.  Stack order doesn't matter they both are going to be in effect at the same time.  If 2 effects you control would modify an event you get to choose the order they take place in.

I love Turbo Fog.

The deflection would never fizzle.  Fog only prevents combat damage deflection can prevent any type of damage.  One of your permanents can get bolted and deflection would kick in even before going into combat damage phase with fog already resolved.
