Red Multiplayer

After an epic weekend with friends playing nothing but 4-man multiplayer matches, I realize almost all of my decks are built for 1-on-1 play. My one friend made a rather large impact with his mono-white all-angel life gain control deck built just for multiplayer, and I need to be prepared next time.

I want to play red, mainly for {Everlasting Torment} and {stigma lasher}s, perhaps with {rage thrower}s and {hissing iguanar}s and some dragons as my beef and flight. I don't have much play experience with red in multiplayer, and would appreciate any input as to what works well.

BlackJester

Where to begin?  I could probably write quite a lot on multiplayer, being my format.  When it comes to red, you need to be more careful with your resources.  Burn spells getting you 1-for-1 lose a lot of oumph when you have 3-5 enemies to keep up with.  Sweeping global damage is good, {Pyroclasm}, {Earthquake} and so on give you more bang for your buck in FFA.  I often use red enchantments, since they continue to affect the game longer than a single {Brimstone Volley} would.  {Circle of Flame} would be a great deterrent, especially with {Everlasting Torment} to give it wither.  {Stigma Lasher} is awesome when given the ability to do direct damage, {Thornbite Staff} is a good repeatable way.
Many red dudes benefit from multiple players/opponents: {War Elemental}, {Taurian Mauler}, {Hammer Mage}.  Every card has to work that much harder in multiplayer, because for every one you draw, the people trying to kill you are drawing that many more.  Red direct damage doesn't have the brute force to deal 60-100 points of damage with {Goblin Grenade}s alone.  It's a different strat, but mono-red can still own the table.

I also play almost exclusively multiplayer (FFA/Assassins) and I have a friend that plays mostly Red and wins as much as the rest of us. Here are a couple cards they like to use.

{Valakut}
{Dragonmaster Outcast}
{Lord of Shatterskull Pass}
{Koth the Hammer}
{Seething Song} and fetch lands (T.expanse/E.Wilds, etc) to speed it up

That is obviously not all of his deck, just some of the cards that I can remember off hand.

Some sound advice, thanks to both of you! I forgotten about that changeling, I love that card. My main concern growing at this point is vulnerability to flying. Dragons seem like the obvious answer, but are there any less obvious recommendations to stop the horde of angels that will come my way when stop all life gain? Haha

Another thought, with all damage being wither from {everlasting torment}, I'm thinking of adding a little green for {Melira, Sylvan Outcast} and persist. Any good green-splashers or persist creatures come to mind that fit a multiplayer format?

BlackJester

{Dragon Broodmother} if you're going the dragon route.  I do think going on the offensive with dragons is pretty good in multiplayer.  {Flameblast Dragon} can really help you eliminate problems.  Also, {Dragonmaster Outcast} can really catch people with their pants down.  Especially in FFA where you usually live to see 6 land.

Splashing green gives you access to {Primeval Titan} for faster land drops, which can be used to feed {Valakut}. Also a quick creature that is a "pants down" type is {Scute Mob}.

At least in my group no one plays for the 3rd turn kill as a rule. We all have done it a couple times for giggles but we enjoy 4-6 players with game times at @1 hour.

I do love {scute mob}.

Long games are quite fun, it's why I enjoy commander as well as casual multiplayer. This weekend my friends and I had a 7 and a half hour commander game, that only ended because of {Gisela, Blade of Goldnight} + {True Conviction} + {Celestial Mantle}. Good times were had by all. I died first to the madness.

So I think I have a start going. Can I post a deck here without it creating a new thread? If so, how does one do that? I'd like to see what you think. Need help narrowing down some final options and trimming fat.

Leviathan

{Mana-Charged Dragon} is a good power piece when brief alliances can be formed or the table has silently agreed that one player is to strong. {AEther Flash} is also a good addition.

{comet storm} and {chain reaction} are pretty good burn spells in a multiplayer format.

Oh and {disaster radius} if you have some big red fattys :)
