Creeping Dread + Madness

What is the order of play for this type of scenerio?
I control {Creeping Dread}, all players select a card to discard.
All cards are revealed, I discard {Alms of the Vein} and chose to pay madness. When {Creeping dread} checks card types, will Alms be in exile, and not counted?

Alms will be counted. It checks the type of the the cards discarded. Alms is still discarded, just discarded into exile.
