How often would you come across cards like that in edh? It would be very devastating if someone in a playgroup started packing it though.

Just to answer rats and shadowborns, but it could come up in your group, that's why I'm asking. Be prepared I'd say, but that motto's already been claimed

Disagree. Athreos fulfills that role pretty well with that much SBA's. Though people could become political in shutting you down by sharing payments, they'll have a hard time effectively doing so.
Something like a {rally the ancestors} would work nicely for that as well. Shirei will make opponents just not pay the life.

But they don't really fill the same role. Athreos returns immediately whereas shirei waits until the endstep. Having shirei out doesn't get your opponents out of athreos' ability. She is more of a backup plan if they've hated out athreos. I've seen sweet shadowborn apostle decks with shirei as the commander. I definitely would consider her here.
