The fact that the two cards go somewhere else instead of the graveyard doesn't matter here.
The ability is not saying "if the cards put in the graveyard this way share a color".
Take the top two, put them in yard, exile instead, note color if both nonland. if the same, repeat.
Note the wording on {helm of obedience} that enables the combo. (Put in Graveyard this way).
