I'm calling bs there is no way a 3-1-1 is 100% top 8 when a 3-2 has a 0% chance. Either you got in with tie breakers or he would have, if he had beaten you.

What I mean by "earned it" is that they have statistically come to a place where they're not incentivized to play.  If with a draw, they have a guaranteed top 8 spot, while opponent gains nothing with a win ... except planeswalker points ... which in 99% of situations won't actually change anything, then they have no incentive to risk losing. My opponent is a dick if all they are playing for is pw points. Now if the math didn't work out this way that's completely different, but I'm assuming the math was sound.

I wasn't saying your math might be off. I'm just saying given this information, I believe the above to be true. In other situations with different math things could be different.

If he ended at 2-1-2 that's 8 points. He said any 3-1-1 makes it in and 3-2 had zero chance. So if 9 points has zero chance, neither does 8 points, so he had to have a win - a draw wouldn't do it.

Suck it up buttercup, earn your top 8.

Lol I understand earning a Top 8 but this isn't the PT and it I probably screwed up the math but it was a lock for me and impossible for him. I have nothing against it if he had a shot obviously but he didn't so I'm saying he should have been polite and concedes

So we have 4 X-1-1 at the end of round 4
Since you have been paired again a 2-2 which is a pair down it is safe to assume other x-1-1 (who aren't paired to another x-1-1) to also be paired down since you said you had the best tie breakers

So pairing could go like this:
2-1-1 vs 2-2 (your game)
2-1-1 vs 2-2 (more likely) or 3-1, (odd 2-1-1 out)
2-1-1 vs 2-1-1 no matter what a 3-1-1 comes out

So we have 2 top 8 spots left
7 belongs to a 3-1-1 no matter what
But if both you and the other 2-1-1 lose a 3-2 can make it in top 8

Now this is based off the info you gave me if something is missing oh well

Note that results of the fifth round shouldn't go into account of what he should do

Always take pics of standings sheets when your about to top 8. Then you get the pride and the math.
