im just curious to see why you people play standard. I got out of it a while ago and I just want to know you guys still play it

I play Standard, Modern, EDH, Pauper, Pauper EDH, some Legacy...

I play whatever needs a player to not have Byes at FNM. Standard really doesn't cost much to keep up unless you must have the top deck at FNM.

Because (other than scapeshift) the decks are more fun to play for me. I prefer playing an old fashioned control deck like ub that's just all counters or kill spells essentially. Also, I standard, a less competitive deck can have a good night and perform much better than a rogue deck in modern can. There's a lower barrier of playability, so there's more rogue and janky decks that can give a fun competitive match. It's just a more fun and interactive format imo

I'm only playing standard this time around because I packed a bunch of cards that actually made a deck for once. I usually only play modern edh legacy or draft FNM or cube

I'm playing because I've always been a fan of voltron style decks that aren't glass cannon, and UW heroic is easily my favorite deck to play

Because I love brewing strange decks and they're much more likely to succeed in a format like standard where overall power levels are lower. I do this in Modern as well because options are bigger even though sometime I waste my time watching Ascendancy and other unfair decks go off.

Wait - there's an option besides standard?

It's the most competitive format (meaning most tourneys are standard) so if you wanna play in bigger events standard is the best route. But I prefer Modern :P

It is what is played at fnm at my local shop.

it is easy to get into (i have been introducing my friend to the game and he when 3/1 his first friday with a 20 event deck).
It is alot cheeper to have a good deck (50 dollar budge builds can compete and beat 300 dollar decks)
Card acquiring is easy (you need a few cards pf something your shop will likely have them or someone has em for trades. I have gone to my store on friday missing 30+ cards and can buy and trade for them in less then half and hour)
