I was passed not one but TWO fetches today at my draft. Paid for the whole thing right there :)

It is possible for the foil to be more value the the fetch. so it's not automatically a bad pick. But if they just took a random playable and the prize wasn't a seat at the pro tour they prolly screwed up.

The thing is that fetches are bad in this draft so if people draft to win then they will pass these fetches in this set almost every time.

One was pick 3.

Also noobs don't understand why they're good or if they are worth anything.  ;)
I think this was what happened.

Personally, if my rare is a money-pick, I'll probably first pick it over a playable uncommon. I can find my deck with my other first picks.
Example: I first picked a foil {Brainstorm} in my second pack of Conspiracy when I was in WB but the pack also had really good Black cards. Why not, free $60.

Picking a $60 card is a no brainer.  Some would argue passing a $10-$15 card is the right call since you increase your odds of winning more packs by making the pick that is best for your deck.

I am usually under the same mindset of grabbing the fetch though ;)

I think I would take something like {abzan falconer} over a fetch though cuz that uncommon wins games!

The thing is that the 1st place prize support at my store doesn't even pay for full draft cost. I think these people just didn't know what they were doing.
