{Defend the Hearth}, is this effective at protecting planeswalkers?  I have aleays been confused by the whole declaring damage towards them. Cause i have been told that you can declare that you are aiming for the walker when declaring attackers, or that you aim for the player and once the damage is agreed will hit them, the attacker can then choose to redirect it at the walker.

Planes walkers are not players, but they can be attacked similarly to players.  Defend the Heartb will not prevent damage that would be dealt to Planeswalkers through combat.

So if the damage is directed at me and i play defend the hearth they can just redirect the damage to the walker?

No, when a player declares attackers, they must declare who is being attacked, Player 1 or player 3, player 1 or tibalt... Things like that

But if they're attacking Tibalt you should probably let him serve his purpose and die.

Now sure why you would even bother attacking Tibalt ...

Cause they feel sorry for you.
