They specifically said he's dead.  The only option to avoid that is time travel.

and they specifically said this was a time travel block.

So lets go with the assumption that is Ugin, because it makes perfect sense given everything we know...

So its "Fate Reforged" right? Here is what's going to happen (all speculation, not confirmed): in "Fate Reforged" Sorin and Sarkhan change history (saving Ugin, etc.) and the third set (Lewey) is a "new future" where dragons never went extinct (including enemy fetchlands). Sort of a similar story to Innistrad (without Avacyn, then Avacyn Restored with Avacyn). Its going to happen, I am 90% sure.

Dudecore

They mentioned in the panel that Sorin arrived on Tarkir to find Ugin, his only ally and person powerful enough to trap the Eldrazi again. Gideon was on Ravnica to get allies against the Eldrazi, And Nissa is in the new Core set. It is completely possible that at the conclusion of Tarkir we return to Zendikar to face off against the Eldrazi. I would however, like to see a break inbetween (so we get new planeswalkers) and pick up the New Phyrexia storyline.

Dudecore

I hope it ends with Phyrexian-ized Eldrazi. Or we find out that Fblthp was a young Nicol Bolas, who plots to take over the universe after he wasn't given proper directions or a hug. ({Totally Lost})

Yes. Chandra has to go to Theros and go back in time to save Elspeth so that she can go to Ravnica, travel back in time, and take Fblthp across the street.

excellent prediction.  We also need to figure out how Tibalt figures into this whole story line.

Don't forget Karn was built for time travel. He can go back in time and get venser of the juice.

Tibalt accidentally pulls Grislebrand onto Tarkir and Grislebrand and Ugin get into a massive battle and Grislebrand steals Ugin's spark and becomes a planeswalker

Personally, I love Elspeth and Venser, but I sincerely hope they aren't revived. Those sort of things happening in Time Travel stories diminishes the impact of the original circumstance. Kill off more, I say, then create more new ones.

Maybe Urza will rise from the depths of Tarkir and destroy Bolas then get himself destroyed in the process

If Venser comes back, then it would completely cheapen the importance of a spark. Elspeth is a special circumstance, as she may be trapped in Nyx or the underworld on Theros. She may be able to come back. Venser be dead for sure.

They've gotta be careful with time travel stories, and put limits on them. If anything can be undone by going back in time then nothing is important - once everything becomes so dire they can just write it out in time travel.

I believe this situation is different. I'm not sure Ugin will be revived, but might teach {Ghostfire} and other things to Sarkhan.

My point exactly. 😁 Elspeth may be brought back one day, but it hope either not for a loooooooooong time or not at all... even though I'm a bit 😪 about it.
