Why would you ever need 25 land with the highest CMC being 3?  The {treetop villages} cannot be the reason for this.  And {pack rat} in modern just seems awful.

If you pulled this from some winning decklist.....the competitors at that tournament need to punch themselves in the face 😜

You are sac'ing tectonic edge but that is late game.  Sac'ing a fetch land replaces itself so that is not a valid reason to increase the count.

I am just jaded on this list because I play B/G Obliterator Rock.  I run 23 lands and the only reason is so I can hit my fourth black land drop for {phyrexian obliterator}.......I would drop to 21/22 if I did not run the Obliterators.  I am also not a fan of {treetop village} in this build but that is just my opinion.......the pros like using the village in this deck but I just disagree based on my own play style.

I can't see Rat in here per say (is that really how you spell per say? Lol) but rat in modern can easily be a thing. You gain access to {Gravecrawler} {Bloodasst} and other recursion stuff.

Yeah, I disagree with Rat, but it does have some decent synergy. Makes {Tarmogoyf} bigger, gives {Scavenging Ooze} more food, and can empty your hand before you use {Liliana of the Veil}.

But the rock deck wins through a game of attrition and dumping your hand to make rat tokens just seems counterproductive to a mid range strategy since you will be dumping potential answers to your opponents plays

Sure it helps goyf but it is not hard to get him to that ever important number of 4 defense in modern.  T1 {verdant catacomb} into {thoughtseize}.  T2 goyf, T3 {abrupt decay}, {slaughter pact}, {funeral charm}, or any other instant and already you have 3 different types in your own GY and most likely a 4th type of creature in your opponents GY by killing an opponents

Remember that modern plays no sweepers so you're paying 3 to make a 2/2 then next turn you pay 3 to make a 3/3.

I don't understand what you are saying????  Paying 3 for a 2/2?  Where do you see that in what I said?

For pack rat in the deck you play your rat a 1/1 for 2 then next turn you make a rat 3 mana for a 2/2 then turn after that 3 mana for a 3/3 and so on. You don't worry about {Supreme Verdict} or {Detention Sphere} so it's fine to commit plus the rats are uncounterable.

Tldr Pack Rat is good enough for modern. But I agree with you in that it's not worth it in this deck

Yea I know he gets big.  I just don't like the discard he makes you do.......it is not am issue for other decks but I think that cripples this deck.  Especially if you are running Lily and +1 here as well.  Sure there comes a point where you are top decking and you don't have to discard for Lily but the rats discard is part of the cost so you may draw something good and you would have to decide to make a token or play your card.

Mattao19

Exactly I was just arguing that Pack Rat has a spot in modern but this Attrition deck is not it
