Can we stop with the negs on this poor guy? he's been posting some decent stuff and there are about three people who seem to have a vendetta against him and have been giving him negative karma.

Instead of just giving new people -1, let's turn things to be a bit more constructive. Tell the user what they are doing wrong, and that way they can improve. It's a healthier situation for everyone, you'll be able to enjoy better quality posts and you're helping include someone into our great community.

I get that when you see  someone with few posts and negative karma it seems like it's ok to just give negative karma, but let's not do the bandwagon thing. Yes your karma is yours to give out, but I encourage each and every one of you to just consider PMing the person what they are doing wrong, instead of the constant negging!

Tree smoker has messaged me asking him what he's doing wrong, and he actually seems to be a pretty cool guy. So I challenge you to be a little more inclusive and give people a chance. Thanks for reading!

Well the comment has since been deleted, but he made a racist remark on the Obamacare thread. First impressions are a bitch.

Although I agree racist comments are bad, it does depend on who you're with. For me, I make bad jokes like that when I'm with close friends who will laugh, but not around people I don't know or adults.

People who make racist jokes are doing just that, making a joke. Jokes don't advocate racism. I think the only lesson here is

"There's a place and time for everything."

I think treesmoker should have simply been more respectful and thought about it better, but I'm sure he's not a racist


Personally I think once a new person is on the forums, for the first 10-50 comments, no one can touch their karma. Then, after that until 100, they should get "Warnings". It won't affect their karma but then they know what's unacceptable. Then after that they should have learned better and their karma can become whatever it wants depending on their attitude.


I think newcomers have it too hard here

Mattao to us it means nothing, but to new comers it signifies how welcome they feel on the forums. Then they just leave

I haven't actually checked out his karma log to be honest, and I agree that karma stalking is wrong. I was just providing commentary on why some might have given him negs, and why some might not be as open to what he has to say.

I also must have missed the part where he said it was a joke. Still in bad taste even if it were a joke, IMO.

I did as well, but it's not that easy for newcomers to understand that. I just don't want our forums that we have fought for to not be as open to newcomers, I think we need to remember not everyone thinks the way we do

I'll be one of the first people to advocate that karma is stupid and meaningless.

That being said, my first few months here I was ranging from -8 to -3 karma and it discouraged me from using the forum side of this app because it seemed like nobody liked what I had to say.

When I first joined its when I first started magic so all my questions were DUMB lol and all I wanted was to learn.

I like the idea of no karma until 100 posts

I've heard it so many times here, and I think it is just totally dumb to say 'karma means nothing'. You are 100% wrong, karma means total of your negative and positive reactions from other forum memners. Not nothing.
