Okay so question.
So say I have a master biomancer on the field and I drop a progenitor mimic on the field but I don't have it copy anything. I now have a 2/2 progenitor mimic creature.
At my upkeep do I get progenitor mimic tokens?

yes it would copy itself, but i dont know if you can have the new copies enter as a copy of something else. for example you have your bimaster and the mimic copys itself. i dont know if when it copies itself it can copy a new creature.

the cards rulings state that you may choose not to have mimic copy anything and it would place 0/0 shapeshifter tokens on the battle field.

Whether you chose to copy something or not it should still gain the ability to make copies of progenitor mimic.

4/15/2013: You can choose not to copy anything. In that case, Progenitor Mimic enters the battlefield as a 0/0 Shapeshifter creature and is probably put into the graveyard immediately.

It would create no tokens, as it says the copied card gains the ability of spitting out copies of itself. The mimic itself does not have the ability but rather grants the ability as if it were an aura. If played with no target youd simply have a 2/2 vanilla creature for 6 mana, not the best choice of play in my opinion.

yes i was i thought it would copy itself from text of the card itself

It states "you may (insert ability here)" otherwise, {progenitor mimic} would enter the battlefield essentially without any of the text given on the card.

Due to the way it is worded you either have to accept the entire ability or decline it.

It is essentially asking. "Do you want progenitor mimic to enter as a copy as any creature on the battlefield with awesome copy abilities or not?"

This happens because it is all part of the same ability.

The big question is, why not copy  {Master Biomancer}? It's just going to snowball......

He wanted to copy his progenitor mimic, so that every turn a new progentor mimic would come into play and he could have it copy whatever he wanted, in case he played something better, or worst case scenario hed still get a new master biomancer each turn
