Anyone want to try some Minotaur Horde Planechase EDH?

Hey guys,

So I bought two Battle the Horde decks from Game Day and combined them into a 100-card EDH Horde deck. I'm still working on the rules, but it's been more fun than just fishbowling. I also proxied together a planar deck designed for EDH games. So I've been thinking: What if we smash these game types together into one zany co-op game?

For those who do not know Planechase rules, each player has a planar die that they may roll at sorcery speed. The first roll is free, then the next ones cost 1 more for each time the die was rolled previously. If you roll the chaos symbol, the current plane's chaos ability is triggered. If you roll the planeswalker symbol, the current plane is put on the bottom of the planar deck, and the top card is flipped. If you do not own a planar die, you can ask me to do the rolls for you.

Now, with the Horde, you can use up to three Hero cards. I have proxied them all, so if you're interested in using them, ask me and I will post them all. Normally, everyone would take their turns simultaneously, but for the purposes of the forum, we're going to have to have some form of turn order unless we can work out simultaneity. We take three turns before the horde takes its first turn. If the horde would lose life, it mills that many cards. You can target the horde with spells and abilities, even before it takes a turn. Normally, at the beginning of the horde's precombat main phase, it reveals its top two cards and casts them, but I had to adjust this for EDH. I'll go over house rules later. You make all choices for the horde if it must make a decision. Ignore effects that cause impossible actions for the horde like drawing cards. And if a horde permanent would go anywhere except its library or graveyard, the cards are put into the horde's graveyard. We win when there are no more minotaurs under the horde's control and there are no cards in its library.

Now for house rules. I've been testing the format by revealing four to five cards, but I'm thinking for more players, I might go back to the old horde rules of revealing until you hit a non-Minotaur. I'll let people decide on that. The horde counts as a player for most global effects. For example, if a {Grave Pact} is out and the Grave Pact's controller's creature dies, the horde has to sacrifice a creature, too. Horde cards are colorless, as far as I know, meaning {All Is Dust} is useless. The Horde has infinite mana, so cards like {Propaganda} don't work. For cards like {Mind Grind}, each Minotaur counts as a land. However, they cannot be searched with land-searching cards.

For other rules concerns, ask me. If we can't figure out what the card will do, you can cycle it. (For example, I still don't know if the horde can pay life for Killing Wave.)

Phew. That was a mouthful. So, anyone want to try something a little different? I'm playing {Karador, Ghost Chieftain}.

il play. this is my first wall game so if i do something wrong i appologize in advance. im playing a {Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter} deck
how many players r u looking for. what do i use for a planar die  because i don't have a planar die so do i just use a regular d6 and only count certain numbers

Brawler_1337

You can use a regular d6 using 1 as Chaos and 6 as Planeswalk, or vice versa. It doesn't matter what you do as long as the two symbols are on opposite sides of the die. Also, I'm hoping for maybe four players, but fewer is acceptable. I'll have to see what my family is doing about dinner tonight, so that may delay things a bit.

The minotaurs are red.  It says so on the playmat.
Huh. I guess I missed that. I skipped right to the special rules.

As for Iona, you can play her if you want, but it will lead to a boring match if you do. I'll allow it, but depending on how you feel, you can cycle her if you want.

Brawler_1337

I guess I'm willing to start now. Do you want to use Hero cards?

AdamS

what are the hero cards. i have never played a game of horde or planechase. but im ready to play. as for iona il keep her but i wont pick the colors of the deck because she one of my best cards even without the ability. i am ready to start but i can only play for about an hour and a half because im going to see the new 300 movie so i might need to take a break if we dont have it finished by then.

Brawler_1337

Okay. I guess we'll play without the hero cards. It'll make things faster, and slightly more difficult for us. I guess we'll have the Minotaurs reveal the top 5 of their library on their turn?

Also, we need to resolve mulligans before revealing the first plane. I guess I'll take first go, to show you how things work. Should we have a combined life total of 40, or 40 a piece?

40 each and do you count as an opponent
No. We're all on the same team. Also, partial paris mulligans are allowed, one free, since this is casual.
