Tapping a blocker

Hey,

I have  {Phenax, God of Deception} on the field as well as 2 {wall of frost} and my opponent attacks with 2 creatures.
I declare the 2 walls as blockers in the blockers phase and then tap in response to mill from {Phenax, God of Deception}'s ability before the damage phase. This stops combat damage being dealt to the 2 blockers, correct?

Sorry if I've worded it badly.

506.4b: Tapping or untapping a creature that's already been declared as an attacker or blocker doesn't remove it from combat and doesn't prevent its combat damage.

In the beginning, the Great and Powerful  {Richard Garfield, Ph.D.} decreed that a tapped creature neither dealt nor received combat damage. This was back when damage still used the stack. These rules changed with Sixth Edition, I believe.

You're close. A tapped defending creature dealt no damage. It would be a sad day if tapped attacking creatures didn't do damage.

Ah the way I remember it. Back in the day if you were a tapped blocker you would not deal damage. Attacking creatures always did if they were allowed to attack. Example  {Icy Manipulator} on the field. If I am allowed to attack it will go thru even if I have a  {Serra Angel}. They had to tap it before I declared it was attacking.
