I need to know how {aether rift} treats {Emrakul of aeons torn} if Emmy is the card being chucked???Can I get some help?

FustyDavorite

from  {Æther Rift} Gatherer rulings:
"The card is actually a discard, so anything that triggers on a discard will trigger. Such abilities will wait to go on the stack until after this ability has completely resolved."

FustyDavorite

If your opponent pays 5 life they're stupid lol

rarehuntertay

At least your graveyard will get shuffled back in regardless...

Would you pay 5 life or let me get Emrakul for free?
OH I read it wrong. Don't mind me. Hehehehe

MuggyWuggy

Wouldn't Emmy actually shuffle himself in on the stack?

yeah he would! Regardless of whether or not he's still in the graveyard when that ability is on the stack, he would get shuffled in. So don't pay the 5 life everyone. He's leaving anyhow.

rarehuntertay

No. His trigger would activate, but aether rift effect would have to resolve fully. You either 1a) get him out, or
1b) opponent pays the 5 life.
2) Then emmy's ability would resolve.

rarehuntertay

Yes. Either you get Emrakul or opponent pays 5 life. Either way your graveyard gets shuffled in.

10/1/2009: First, the card is discarded. Then, in turn order, each player is given the option to pay 5 life. Then, if no player paid 5 life, the card is put onto the battlefield from the graveyard.
10/1/2009: The card is actually discard, so anything which triggers on a discard will trigger. Such abilities will wait to go on the stack until after this ability has completely resolved.

Here's what would happen:
You discard emrakul vie aether rift. Then, because of awther rift's ruling, emrakul enter the graveyard ability would wait to go onto the stack until aether rift's ability had completely resolved. So say no one pays the 5 life. The ability resolves entirely, emrakul enters the field and it's enter the graveyard ability goes onto the stack because it had entered a graveyard. It gets shuffled into the library along with the graveyard.

If no one paid 5 life, the emrakul will not get shuffled because it is no longer in the grave.

darn. Sorry, I thought Emrakul's ability was stated differently than it was. Post deleted! I succeed.

seems like these rulings conflict, Test?

FustyDavorite

Rarehunter nailed the second ruling. No conflict here.

particle

but my question is about the triggered ability after emrakul is back on the field. is this emrakul a new object and cant be found by the shuffle emrakul and graveyard into library?

rarehuntertay

The wording on Emmy just says graveyard. So Emmy breaks free from grave, how would it shuffle itself if it's no longer in grave? Lol
