Quick question: since {progenitus} has protection from everything, would I be able to sac it for {Vish Kal, blood arbiter} 's ability? I thought you might be able to because I would be the one sacrificing it. I just need a ruling bc I tried doing that the other day bc my friend played {black sun zenith} and rather than let him die, I wanted to sac him to save Vish Kal.

Rule 701.13a

Thats the best i can find. But yes you can. Pro everything can still be destroyed by saccing abilites or abilities like {Geth's Verdict}

Remember, protection covers DEBT: Damage, Equip/Enchant, Blocking, Targeting.  Anything else is not prevented

{Progenitus} could also be read this way (but wordier):
Prevent all damage that would be dealt to Progenitus.
Progenitus cannot be equipped, enchanted, blocked, or targeted.

True but I wasn't sure if sacing fell under targeting. Thanks. So next time I'll have a 15/15 vampire. Awesome.

The only two times targeting happens are when:
A) You cast an Aura and try to attach it to a creature. (But if an aura somehow comes into play, like with {Sun Titan}, you can enchant a creature without targeting.  Weird, I know.)

B) The actual word "target" shows up in the text.

Anything else is not targeting.

BlackJester

I mention this because there are cards that cause you to sacrifice a target card.  Look at {Sarkhan the Mad}'s #2 ability:

"Target creature's controller sacrifices it, then that player puts a 5/5 red Dragon creature token with flying onto the battlefield."

Yes it's a sacrifice, but it has the word target, so {Progenitus} is immune to the Madman.

Compare this to {Liliana of the Veil}'s #2:

"Target player sacrifices a creature."

If {Progenitus} is the only dude on your side, you'll have to sac it.

Clear?

Quackmaster5

Yep. Thanks. Gunna definately kill my friend for this bc I lost bc I had to kill off both my creatures.

Does {progenitus} have protection from "your mother"?

{Mother of Goons}?

It has protection from her too, since it never goes to the gy, she doesn't need to insult it.  :P
