Carrying mana

Are you able to carry mana in the pool from the first main phase, through combat and use it in the second main phase?.

Not without something to put them in. 

Seriously, manapools empty at the end of each phase and each step.  It used to stay there until the end of the phase, but that was changed.  If you have mana in your pool when you declare your attackers, use it or loose it when Declare Blockers happens.
