Oh, really? I thought protection doubled as prevention in every possible circumstance. Guess not.

Protection gives you prevention of DEBT.
Damage
Enchanted/equipped
Blocking
Targeting

If you have Protection you can block for days and take no damage from whatever you're protected against.
