I have a quick question here... I've just recently started getting into standard and I'm wondering, how long does it take for a set to not be standard? And when will the next set leaving standard leave??? I just want to know so I have an idea how long a standard deck is good for

Ok thanks :) and how often do they switch out?

ApexPredator

Every year. So in June they release m15. At that point m14-m15 is standard legal that include the expert expansions. In October they will release the next expansion and the RtR block and m14 will rotate out.

Each block is in rotation for two years. Each year a block rotates out and a new one starts.

Each block is in rotation for two years. Each year a block rotates out and a new one starts.

So basically first set in new block is good for 2 years, 2nd set: 1 year 9 months, 3rd set: 1 year 6 months.   And then core sets are good for 1 year 3 months. Core sets overlap for 3 months.

When a new block starts, the oldest rotates out along with previous years core set. Only 2 blocks allowed in standard at a time.

This is why I play modern format. No rotation!

...you only have to pay $40-50 for fetches, have a playset of Shocklands and most of the staples cost $30 or more....

but yeah, once you invest in Modern, its totally worth it because you don't have to buy new cards every year.

There's always budget modern decks. RDW, living end, restore balance, etc. :)

Anyway I don't want to turn this standard thread into a modern thread. (Actually, I do. But I'll refrain. 😆)

I just made the decision to stop playing legacy and modern. Fun although they are the tournament schedule is hard for me to fit into my schedule and I find the ever rotating setting of standard quite fun.

Send me all of your fetches, dual lands and other such staples then! You don't need them any more....
