AEtherling and Far//Away

If the only creature I control is {AEtherling} and my opponent casts a fused  {Far // Away}
Do I respond to on by exiling or do I have to respond to both.

So I would just blink and the second half would fizzle.

Both halves would fizzle since there would be nothing to target anymore.

Keep in mind they they can target their own creature with far or just not pay for that half of the spell.

Not if they target your aether king and it blinks, just because the target is invalid does not mean you get to pick a new target...

Targets are chosen on resolution. You blink in response to them fusing it, then they have to unsummon one of their creatures. The second half fizzles.

You're right. Targets are chosen upon casting. So both sides fizzle. +1 for making me rethink and realize my mistake. Yay learning experiences. xD
Edit: The only exception to this is if the card says "choose" or something. But that's irrelevant to the current question.

To be fair, the sacrifice half doesn't target but if ætherling leaves the battlefield until end of turn before the spell resolves, he obviously won't be a valid choice to sacrifice once it becomes time to choose if he's not there.

I was under the impression that we were running through the scenario as though Aetherling was the only creature on his board (as it often usually is).

It won't matter whether or not {Aetherling} is the only creature. If it blinks, it can't be sacrificed because it's not there when {Far // Away} resolves.
