Since {Master of Waves} has pro red, can it be targeted by {Slaughter Games}?

I would think that because what's being targeted is a card, and not a permanent in play at all, that the pro-red doesn't apply

Protection only works on the field. On top of that (as mentioned above), the card itself isn't being targeted, but the player.

Unfortunately, protection can't help against something like {Slaughter Games}.
