Say I have {Heliod, God of the Sun} on the battlefield. Would the legendary rule prevent me from casting and keeping another God on the field? Silly question, but I got into what appeared to be a one sided heated argument about it. I said no, cause Thassa isn't the same as Heliod, but they were insistant cause of the "God" subtype.

704.5k: If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule."

So basically if they have different names they can both be out at the same time. Unless they are making a "only one god on the battlefield at one time" rule.

Edit: Also, god is the creature type. You can have as many beasts, rats, fish, zucchini out as you want as long as they aren't legendary with the same name.

I believe the confusion comes from the fact that the planeswalker uniqueness rule is similar but intimately different.

704.5j: If a player controls two or more planeswalkers that share a planeswalker type, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "planeswalker uniqueness rule."

By this rule, the planeswalker {Jace Beleren} and {Jace, The Mindsculptor} cannot co-exist on the same battlefield, due to their same subtype, even tho they have different names.

As I stated, these rules are similar but actually quite different.

On a side note can you use a exile creature spell to get rid of a god theros card if it doesn't have devotion to a color so it's just a enchantment?

Raven316

No but if it's only an enchantment can u remove it with a exile target creature???

Only if you have  {Mirror Gallery} out too.
