So I'm thinking of building modern Merfolk. Any staples I should look for?

How much does a great modern merfolk deck with all the staples cost? I've never played modern, but it looks good

The build I have sketched runs between $200 and $300

 {Spreading Seas} is very good in modern. Someone at my lgs has a modern Merfolk deck with  {Sygg, River Cutthroat} in it not sure how strong it is.

Seas, I might consider. It seems really easy to deal with in comparison to {Aquitect's Will}. Good thing they're both cheap XD

Also, in this kind of deck, is {Progenitor Mimic} a good idea?

Remember that seas renders a non-blue player's land nearly useless, while aquitect's will expands a land's ability. As for the mimic, the effect is good, but it costs too much. Merefolk is basically an aggro/tempo deck, so you will want to keep the curve low.
