I am new to magic along with 3 friends of mine. I would love if you could answer a few questions. 1. Can you destroy plainswalkers with magic or creatures?...still not understanding exactly how these cards work in general.   2. If a card say target player gains life does this card mean it works on the opponent? I'm sure ill have more questions. Thank you, Fred

1) Planeswalkers can be killed a few ways. If you play a burn spell and hit a player (say with {Lightning Bolt}) you can redirect that damage to the planeswalker, if they don't prevent the damage somehow. When attacking a player, you may choose to attack the planeswalker as well/instead of the player. Blocking occurs as normal, and any damage done to the walker will result in a loss of that many loyalty counters. Also, "destroy target permanent" spells (such as {Bramblecrush}) will work. {Dreadbore} is a nice solution as well.

2) When a spell or ability says "target" it simply means that whoever is casting the spell or activating the ability chooses the target for the spell/ability. If you cast a spell that says "Target player gains 5 life" then you get to choose which player gains 5 life.

So I just got out my  {Sorin Markov} they could simply use  {Celestial Purge}
And it's gone?

You are correct.

Could you redirect or target a Planeswalker with searing spear

Vyse

After targeting your oppenent you can choose to redirect the damage to a planeswalker yes.

MementoMori

That means if your opponents have hexproof or shroud, you can't target their planeswalkers with direct damage spells.

Target player is the player you choose can be you or teammate, planeswalkers can be destroyed with creatures

But if no one else cares I don't care

So you only care when people can see your actions, otherwise you feel bad about yourself? I met someone like you in primary school.

I was told when a spell targets a player, you can target a Planeswalker instead

That's incorrect. Only spells/effects that deal damage can have their damage redirected to a planes walker

So the spell HAS to say "player and/or  Planeswalker"?
