I'm thinking about trying to teach my 6yr old son Jase(might have made the spelling diff if I played MTG back then) how to play, I'm thinking just basics, maybe black with doom blades and maybe red with lightning bolts I'd like to hear your ideas

The Learner

How I should teach him that is 😳

Rass

Start with basic creatures. No spells just creatures. Then introduce items one at a time like enchantments or sorcerers. Go with a small deck 20-30 cards.

Dudecore

Teach him on Duals of the Planeswalkers 2014 (when it comes out) - with a white deck. White decks do everything new players like. Gain life, turn creatures sideways, use enchantments to pump them up, and gets flying.

Pslider

I introduced my 7yr old to it thinking it would be a fun way to work on math and reading, just a simple green elf deck. Unfortunately my wife disapproved of the cards saying they were to grown up. Was nice to finally have someone to play with again.

Everforward

My dad taught me through a mono red burn deck when I was around the age of 6 or 7 actually, it worked well gave me idea of how the mechanics worked with out the mana being to difficult to use with but at the same time instant and sorcerys were involved and that gave me a better since of how the pieces worked together but also made the game alot of fun, but I definetly agree that you should stick to te basics, 20 life all he's got to do is deal enough damage to win, toss in some fun cards like a card that I remember was in the deck was  {Emberwilde Djinn}. It made the game crazy fun with him swapping sides all the time, we also played the usual lightning bolt played {mog fanatic} one of my favorites {vanshino sandstalker} that kind of stuff, fairly straight forward but still very fun, but start him on the basics lands different types of basic land and the different kind if spells, make it fun, light hearted and interesting, make him play with his hand on the table so you can point out what he can play and you play with yours on the table as well so he can see what you do, do your best to make sure that he disent get lost and understands whats going on and what he can do get him to read the cards and walk him through it :) also let him win make it a fun game, make two decks that are all about fun and let him play with both of them while you play the other :).... I'm now 17 still playing magic with my brother and dad and am now crushing my dad in just about every game XD

Hope it was helpful send me a pm if you have any more questions :)

hah! wish my dad did something like this with me, I tried to play with my little brother (he is 10) but he thinks magic is complicated and stupid and would rather play baseball :(

Lets reserve judgement, please. This is a safe place. We're all nerds here.

At six years old I was out hunting on my own.

The Learner

Yep 😝 I do and the judgement is cool, there's alittle part of me that knows it is wrong but I let him know that as well, I'm not a dumb parent 😇 but what I'm into he is as well my son, my everything

Rob

No real judgement... :-)
Just surprized...
I love playing C.O.D. myself. It can get quite messy at times...
Maybe more Magic then.... Hehe.
