I remember Coffee Vampire had an old Deck that have the opponent lots of creatures and then he would  {Batwing Brume} to win. That would be a great deck to use Gideon in

MisterJH

I played against that deck! Hed have {blood artist} or somethin and then {ratchet bomb} like 10 tokens it was evil

Wackaman9001

I like him in my orzhov deck. At the very least he is a distraction, at most he gets up to about 20-25, ults, and starts swinging while we both try to get mana out. He is really good, especially against control and midrange

Just like {vraska the unseen}, he just needs a good home, though ironically it's not in Boros.

Wackaman9001

I don't drop him ASAP, why would I? By that same merit, shouldn't you wait to play jace until you can counter their threats?

Wackaman9001

Gideon buffs himself to ward off the hit, works the same as jace slowing them down almost

Most creatures that are played in standard are "value creatures". There are not a whole lot of 1/1's.  On turn 4 or 5 creatures usually have power bigger than 1, so if you +1 for 2 or 3 creatures that have 3, 4, or 5 power, he doesn't protect himself very well.

Wackaman9001

So you wouldn't be blocking? I just don't see them attacking unless they were all attacking already.

What I'm saying is that he doesn't protect himself very well.   {Sorin, Lord of Innistrad} +1 poops out a 1/1 blocker to protect himself.   {Garruk Relentless} +0 poops out a 2/2 blocker to protect himself.   {Tamiyo, the Moon Sage} +1 taps down a potential attacker to protect herself.  {Liliana of the Veil} +1 discard a potential threat,  -2  sacrifice a potential attacker to protect herself.   {Garruk, Primal Hunter} +1 poops out a 3/3 blocker to protect himself.

Ok defend is not right, closer to brace himself.

Cannot see the problem... Play him in deck with 10 fogs and few wrathes and he is ultra powerful...:D

Haha I only see him as viable in Tfog. Like you said, whitedrake, {Gideon, Champion of Justice}+{Garruk, Primal Hunter}=

My favourite combo in standard nowadays...:D

{Guardian of the Gateless} maybe if Gideon had this ability

I'd rather go with this angel + {frontline medic} than gideon
