Now that Modern is an FNM format I decided we needed a discussion for it. So what decks dis you play at you Modern FNM and how did they do?

ihasfrozen

3/8/2013
2-2 with W/U/R

0-2 vs Kiki-Pod, made a poor decision g1 that let him get Kiki back.
Bye
2-0 vs Gifts-Rites
1-2 vs Eggs, another bad play, I didn't leave enough mana open to activate both  {Relic of Progenitus}

Birdbrain

My city doesn't have a modern format. At least near me. I only know of 2 places in my town that sells magic, and I'm not sure the other one does tournaments. They tried to get modern going in my town, but people only showed up for the first three times and stopped coming.

I only have: standard, booster draft, and legacy to choose from. As well as prerelease's. But I'm not going to do standard...guess ill have to make my modern decks good enough for legacy...there dual lands don't even have a drawback, and then there are the mox's...

3/15/2013 3-2 Finished 3rd playing U/W/R Geist

0-2 vs Kiki-Pod
2-0 vs Some kind of home-brewed red deck
2-1 vs B/W
2-1 vs Affinity

1-2 vs Kiki-Pod in top 4

MacUser001

Went 4-4 with Merfolk at a PTQ. I was impressed as it was my first big event.

Seth5000

Last Friday went 1-3
Didn't pay attention to the modern next week thing and brought a standard deck
1-2 to a persist
2-1 to a mono B vampire
0-2 to a interesting RUW board wipe deck
0-2 to a RU mill copy deck

Went 3-1 with Geist of Saint Win (U/W/R)

2-1 vs. U/W Tron with gift/rites package
2-0 vs. Grixis Delver
0-2 vs. Jund
2-0 vs. Dimir Tempo

0-2 vs. infect in top 8

Antirayman

I went 3-1 with Master affinity.

2-0 againt rdw ({Spellskite})
0-2 jund
2-1 eggs
2-0 naya-pod ({Whipflare} and  {Blood Moon} killed the mana base)

Mlerner12

Went 3-1 with my RDW deck, lost against Boros life gain 1-2. Beat:
Merfolk (Really surprised there) 2-1
Boros Aggro 2-0
Another RDW deck 2-0

DeathlyFoiend

I took an Eggs' Modern deck to my FNM a little less than a month ago.

I went 3-1 to the Semifinals and lost to Mono U Tron.
Round 1: Jund 2-0  Leyline was the best card to win and it is best to go first to get Lotus Blooms out of the hand.
Round 2: Affinity 2-1  Pyrite Spellbomb is amazing early on with Conjurer's Bauble backup. Chalice of the Void, Pithing Needle, Blind Obedience are the best sideboards against the deck.
Round 3: WR Aggro 2-0 A weird brew that made no sense.
Round 4: Living End. 1-2 A deck, playing against it is rather weird because I normally suspect Jund with the lands they play and I rushed to go-off. Echoing Truth and Silence are going to be the best plays here.

Semi-Finals: 1-2 I lost because Silence and Swan Song didn't do the job I was hoping for. I only drew one of them in the sideboard games. The match up is pretty unique with their counter and bounce spells.

Went to my LGS for Modern tourney, since they hold Modern on either the third or fourth Friday of each month. We had 22 players, so 5 rounds of Swiss with cut to top 8.

Round One vs John (Jund Aggro Assault Loam)
Good guy, though I have never beaten him. He got out a Countryside Crusher on turn 4 while I had out 2 Lords, with one of his lands turned into an island. I cast Master of Waves, got 6 tokens and next turn beat him down for the win. Game 2 was pretty much the same, except i had 2 Master of Waves down on turn 5 and had his graveyard removed from Relic of Progentius. He conceded and wasn't very happy about it, complaining about having my key card both games by turn 5. I thought to myself, "its where you cut me to."
1-0

Round Two vs Donald (mono-black with slight red splash)
Both games where quick beatdowns on my part. Game one all I saw were two pack rats. Game two I saw a Desecration Demon, but it was either tapped down by Reejerey or Snagged back to hand.
2-0

Round Three vs Krieg (homebrew Gruul)
This was a fun interesting matchup. He was basically using mana ramp to get to Purphorus, and then would start casting spells to give him multiple creatures, such as Xenagos.  First game I didn't know what hit me, and it was over quick. Game Two i think i boarded in Tidebinders and Spellskite to stop his targeting. I shut down his mana base, and won with an army of islandwalkers. Game three I sided in my lone swan song, just in case he cast Purphorus. It wasnt needed, as my Merfolk army annihilated him.
3-0

Round Four vs Dylan (Izzet Delvermancer)
We intentional drew this, as 10 points guaranteed top8. We played for fun anyway, in which i learned that young pyromancer is nasty in multiples. He beat me in 3 games, which did not include sideboarding.
3-0-1

Round 5 vs Kevin
Another intentional draw, since he was 3-1 and guaranteed top8. We didn't even play, so I had no idea what he ran. More on that later.
3-0-2

Top 8 vs Kevin (Mono-black)
This was the same guy from round 5. We looked at each other and said, now we have to play. Game One was over in about 7 turns, as Merfolk like to swim through the swamps to the islands. Game two I was in control throughout, keeping his Obliteraters at bay, until he drops down Gary and hits me for 16, killing me instantly. Game Three was another quick swimdown fest for the merfolk.
4-0-2

Semifinals vs Matt (janky Esper Control)
Game 1 he kept a decent hand, with double thoughtseize, which he used the first two turns. He also shocked himself with a Hallowed Fountain. After that he had no answers to any of my creatures. It was over by turn 6. Since I didn't see much of his deck, no sideboard. Game Two he got me under a double Isochron lock, with one imprinted with Echoing Truth and the other with Silence. Ashiok came down and killed me. Game Three I sided in Steel Sabotage, and he cut me right to them. Opening hand had both. Spreading seas cut him off from his white sources, and thats all she wrote.
5-0-2

Finals vs Dylan (Izzet Delvermancer)
Same opponent from round 4. I gave him the win, since it was 130 in the morning and everyone was getting tired. Besides, he wants the points and I have no use for them.
5-1-2

We proceeded to open our packs. My 4 contained Abhorrent Overlord (yuck),
Hammer of Purphorus (already have 4), Sylvan Carytid (need for standard, if I play), Prophet of Kruphix (interesting) and a foil Fleecemane Lion! Plus the FNM promo Sin Collector.

All in all, I had a great time and loved the diversity the format has. There was at least 10 different decks represented, including a BG standard deck that almost top8.

I sided out Cursecatcher nearly every game, as he didn't do much for me. I would usually side out a spell pierce also. I never sided in the Hurkyl's or the Grafdiggers.

Deck list as follows:

3 Cursecatcher
4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
4 Silvergill Adept
2 Phantasmal Image
2 Kira, Great Glass-Spinner
2 Merrow Reejerey
3 Master of Waves

4 AEther Vial
3 Spell Pierce
3 Vapor Snag
4 Spreading Seas

1 Cavern of Souls
15 Island
4 Mutavault
2 Tectonic Edge

SB: 2 Hurkyl's Recall
SB: 2 Tidebinder Mage
SB: 2 Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 2 Relic of Progenitus
SB: 2 Spellskite
SB: 1 Swan Song
SB: 2 Spell Snare
SB: 2 Steel Sabotage

Seems like a very weird meta. No Tron, Pod, American Control, Infect or Affinity?

rarehuntertay

There was one tron build that went 2-3. One affinity that made top8. This was my first modern that I attended here. 22 players. Other than that, I wasnt paying much attention to all the decks.

Talock

So went to my first modern FNM and had a great time loving modren the deck I have picked to start playing in modren, it is Living End and it has been a blast to play my FNM err ultra were RW soul sisters 2-0, RG Tron 2-0, mono black 2-1 and last round Affinity 2-0 ended up 1st so was very happy with the first run out.
