The trigger happens during the upkeep. If you sac it. You'll have to wait till the next upkeep to populate

I meant they can't cause growing ranks to trigger from sacing the creature if it's not during the upkeep. But I said basically it could happen during the upkeep if they sac it during the upkeep

I think it is the one with RESOLVED at the end.

Though. The token effect doesn't just happen on the upkeep. If it dIes in anyway. You will get tokens. Since it does not say "if it dies during the upkeep". Just simply "dies". I wasnt saying no. Only no outside the upkeep

Great answers!  Yeah, by sacking, in this instance, I meant not paying the cumulative upkeep, which is why it posed a tricky question being at the beginning of the upkeep.   This was my first post here, and I got exactly the answer I was looking for. Thanks!
