Tap all lands

Lets say my opponent plays {Gulf Squid} and taps all my lands. In response can I tap my lands and dump the mana into my mana pool to be used later in the phase? I'm thinking yes but just looking for clarification. Obviously it wouldn't work if they played a card like {Mana Short} since it also empties the mana pool.

Used to be a bigger deal when mana burn was still a thing. A lot of cards, especially from Prophecy, got better.

Like {Braid of Fire}, for instance? :D
bingo!  That card is ALL upside now.

Hold the phone, doesn't mana empty between phases?

Yup.
Unless you have cards that allow you to float the mana into the next phase or turn, they would normally empty.

{Braid of Fire} and {Comet Storm} works quite well in a long game. Or feed four to {Soulbright Flamekin}, then pay it once more later to have a net gain of six mana to use for {Bonfire of the Damned} or other non-instant {fireball} spells.

I can't see how any of those cards hold mana past their current phase.
The only card I know that does it is {omnath, locus of mana} and that's only green mana. (Then again I've only been playing 3 years and don't know most old cards...)

{Upwelling} if you intend to allow all players to carry over mana.

The others I posted were uses for {Braid of Fire}; since the mana generated from that only exists during upkeep, there aren't mana spells that can use most of it up when it gets to a large amount of red mana.

Gotcha! I guess I couldn't see how it related to the original posters question.

Ah, my bad lol. Meant to add on to testset and jester's post.

Basically, I was just commenting on the fact that you can always tap land for mana in response to a spell or ability, even if you don't plan on using it right away.

Something you wouldn't want to do with mana burn.
