I was wondering what {Vigor}'s ruling is when it and a giant mob of creatures gets hit by {Alpha Brawl}? Specifically, what gets prevented before and after {Vigor} dies in the midst of the brawl.

Phat Max

Key word is 'then'.

So I'm assuming someone hits {Vigor} with {Alpha Brawl}. He will do 6 to each other creature, giving them all 6 counters, then he gets killed.

In case your wondering, you can't hit your own creature with {Alpha Brawl} also.

Actually in this particular game, {Artisan of Kozilek} was selected for the brawl but {Vigor} was on the same side of the battlefield.

All damage from Artisan would be dealt at the same time, meaning vigor is still alive as the damage is dealt, so his damage prevention and counter addition trigger will go on the stack and happen. vigor dies, and everyone else survives and gets their vigor counters.

And artisan would probably get soooooo many counters.  That alpha brawl would be suicide.

Uh, no, artisan would die. That is because he deals damage to everyone(killing vigor and buffing others), and THEN the others deal damage to him(which would kill him unless he somehow gets protected or there are no other creatures to hit him, because even a 0/1 would be 10/11 after the first part of the spell resolves)

1/22/2011   The two parts of Alpha Brawl's effect happen sequentially: first the targeted creature deals damage, then the other creatures deal damage. State-based actions aren't checked in the middle, so creatures that are dealt lethal damage by the targeted creature will still deal damage.

Well I got half of it right, sequential part totally slipped my mind. Not getting sleep is effecting my brain, my bad.
