Lots of self pain in this deck.  Add {death's shadow} since your life total will be relatively low.

Could you explain how this is a deck strategy. All it looks like is a destruction deck with self pain and mana ramp. I have a mono black destruction and it works great without mana ramp.

If you're trying to win STAT, I wouldn't recommend the Coffers.  They take until at least turn five to be worthwhile and that's assuming you drop nothing be {Swamp}s.  {Lake of the Dead} fits into the "Self Pain" theme while ramping.

Why not take out some of the pain lands and use {terramorphic expanse} ?

Because the pain lands put lands into play untapped, that way they don't slow you down.

edit: I know that the pain lands can help thin your deck a bit, but considering this is a tempo deck, would you want to reduce the land count?  Maybe to 21-22?
