they do basically the same except you can get any out without paying a life and it comes into play tapped

Coming in untapped can save you a turn.  Also they can fetch non-basic lands that's huge that's why their worth more than .10 cents.

Yep. The benefit is being able to grab dual lands {volcanic island} e.g. or even shock lands {watery grave} since it has a land type. Though fetching a shock land would kinda suck.
