-do other cards like {maul splicer} with ETB effects lose their effects do to essence of the wild being in play?

-what about {thatcher revolt}? Do the copies come in with haste and get destroyed at the end of the turn?


I'm trying to make a deck around Essence but I need to understand how the card works first

Creatures with ETB effects will lose them if the enter as an EotW.

The Human tokens will lose their abilities (haste), but the delayed trigger will still make you sac them.

You are talking about bladehold being out before essence

{Essence of the Wild} will overwrite anything written on the card/tokens themselves.  It will not not change other characteristics (attacking/blocking, tapped, flipped, face-down etc) that are applied externally.  {Flash Foliage} will put a 6/6 copy blocking a creature.  Creatures with ETB effects lose those effects.

I just thought about another one: what if you put tokens out that are copies of essence and they get sent to the hand with say an {unsummon}.  Do they get destroyed as well or do you now have copies of Essence in your hand?

Even though they are copies, they are still tokens. They just enter the battlefield with the same name and stats of essence of the wild. It doesn't change them to an actual magic card though.

If you cast {Unsummon} on a 1/1 spirit token from {Lingering Souls} that entered as a copy of {Essence of the Wild}, the token will be exiled.

Ok here's another one: if I have in play a {hero of bladehold} {parallel lives} and an {essence of the wild} and I play {kuldotha rebirth} will 6 copies of essence come into play?

Also when I attack with the hero of bladehold do all 4 copies of essence come in tapped and attacking or just 2?

Yes to all. With parallel lives or {doubling season} out and essence of the wild on the field, you are going to to get double your tokens from lives and those tokens will be copied of essence. So {kuldotha rebirth} will net you 6 tokens of essence, as would {captain's call}, {krenko's command} will get you 4, etc, etc.

As for bladehold, yes again. Token effect is copied, tapped and attacking, and all 4 enter as copies of essence. Ouch.

Living weapons' 0/0 germs also enter as a 6/6 copy of EoTW. Just so you know.
