No one is going to change my opinion on this because they fact remains that I was told I could get it for MSRP and I go there to find out they decided to mark it up......that is shady as hell anyway you look at it.
I went to get a FtV a while back (I think it was Relics) and the price was $90. The owner claimed it was MSRP.

Is it possible to buy a FtV Legends (on eBay) for $60 and sell it at $90? I remember there was an expensive card in there..

Richardalcala

Nobody uses MSRP look at car dealerships everyone has there mark up price.

My lgs charges msrp. When I bought mine he asked if I was going to eBay one to pay for them both. I said no that I plan to use them. He has explained in the past that he chooses to sell for msrp because if he didn't smart consumers would go elsewhere like online. His single card prices are 15% less than current SCG.

Now THAT'S a businessman!  "Screw making a quick couple of bucks!  I rather maintain a loyal base of smart players." 😌

I want your LGS.

Rass

Yep I got a call from a place by where I work. "Hello sir we have you ftv realms but it's gonna $120 plus tax" I laughed and said no thanks.

As far as msrp on a car you can pay less you need to be willing to walk away. I paid under the sticker price for my fully loaded 2007 tundra. I did waste a few days talking to different dealers but I did get it out the door under the price on the sheet posted on the window.

Rass

Also so many ftv realms on sale on eBay really looks like it was a limited print.

Just got the last FTV my LGS had!! Plus got my frequent buyer card filled almost so will save $10 off a box of RtR. Yesssss!!!!

It's blatant lying.

Mine was MSRP $34.99. LGS is good. Said he felt it would be theft to mark them up like that. He's holding two back for 3 months from now to sell at whatever they are going for then, but that is very fair and wise investing. He keeps and increases customer base/loyalty and also will profit.

Too bad there are so many ripping people off

Coffee Vampire

To me, it doesn't seem like ripping people off selling them above MSRP. Yeah it is nice to sell at the RECOMENDED price, and yeah it may be a dick move to mark them above $90.00, but when you look at the definition of MSRP, complaining about a store selling for higher than it is more like complaining about bad luck, not corruption. Wizards never told anyone how much to sell it for. Just suggested.

I hear people say "why isn't msrp just 100 bucks if the lgs sell for that much anyways?" Well at least SOME stores are selling for MSRP!! Basically what these people are saying is, "my store doesn't sell for msrp so everyone else in the world should have the same bad luck."

Basically what I am trying to say is that if msrp is wizard's way of saying this:

"ok. you can sell this for whatever you want, but here is the price we recomend you sell it at if you want to be nice yet still gain a reasonable profit. Have fun. :)"

Btw I am not defending people who sell it for WAY above MSRP. I am just saying that unfair isn't always unjust. It sure isn't fair that most sell it for 100 while few sell for msrp. But it is completely just and they have every right.

One thing I notice is that the small stores seem to be the ones selling for msrp. The store I do FNM at sells at msrp, yet I would bet a FTV: Realms box that the one a little farther away that is HUUUUGE (x treme games) sells for higher. Interesting if you ask me...the stores with all the money are the ones that just can't get enough :p

The rules of capitalism usually correct this anyway.

Look at it this way: a Toyota Camry comes out and all over TV, everywhere it is advertised as $14,999 MSRP. You go in and they say they are charging $20,000.

You don't buy, go somehwere else, or get something else and they lose the original profit they would have made before getting greedy.

I honestly compare this to ticket scalping. Like when someone buys up all the tickets to a concert then stands outside selling them 5x as much.

I understand the point you're getting at, but the car example isn't the best one to use because the features on the one at the dealer probably aren't going to be the same as the one you saw on tv. Also, when a giant company like Toyota releases a new model of their flagship car, there usually aren't supply constraints. The ticket scalping is a good example though because it involves a limited, finite quantity of product that has the potential to be in high demand.

Invisible hand ftw!

Who cares stop wasting time Arguing if you really want it spend the time looking for it at a reasonable price for YOU every lgs needs to turn some kind of a profit just depends on how greedy the owners really are

Coffee Vampire

I was not aware I was wasting anyone's time. I am certainly not wasting my own time! ^^ I can post an argument in like a few seconds and I enjoy letting my opinion be known. (in a non kuberr way of course hehe)
