I struck out at two LGS's. One of them was lying about not having them I think... Why wouldn't an employee but them all himself for $35 and resell them immediately to channelfireball for $80? Double your money (or more if you want to sell the individual cards yourself) for basically doing nothing but being at the right place at the right time. So lame.
Pretty sure theres a policy against doing that.

Also, I just found out that only LGSs that host tournaments (FNM etc) are eligible to order them.

FtVs are meant to be a "thank you present" for stores.

I don't think it ends up being that. It becomes a target for people to try to make a quick profit. Oh, well. I'm just bitter because I couldn't get one.

I kinda see it as a way for WotC to reward LGSs and other distributors. If they can make a profit of off MSRP, then imagine how much extra coin they are getting.
Wizards is saying "here's something players will pay lots of money for, and you can mark WAY up.  Your welcome!"

Remember, WotC isn't making the difference, just the retailers.
This is not good business practice.  It is not the goal of a business to make profits for another business...the goal is to increase your own profits while expanding and maintaining your customer base.

No they are not.....WotC states these sets are meant to make use of cards not normally obtainable by players.  What is with this supposed idea that WotC, or any business for that matter, would go through the design, manufacturing, and advertising process for the sole process of increasing another business' profits?????This is just a ludicrous idea that makes no business sense whatsoever....

Its not good business to support and promote locations where your product is sold and used. They are promoting stores that encourage and promote their product by hosting FNMs and such. Sounds smart to me. 😏

Yes creating more products for your vendors to sell is smart.  No it is not smart to state a MSRP that is not followed by your vendors.  My entire point in this is if 90% of your vendors are going to ignore the suggested retail price then either stop putting the MSRP on your items or sell it yourself to the actual customer base.

BlackJester

Well, it IS only a suggestion after all. 😉

It sounds from the forum that there ARE LGS that sell it at MSRP, and I think good stores that want to gain customer loyalty should sell it at close to MSRP.

But if you have a product that will fly off the shelves by the end of the day, many stores will seize the opportunity to make some extra jingle.💰

Because quoting some random user on another forum is somehow a factual citation?

No one is going to change my opinion on this because they fact remains that I was told I could get it for MSRP and I go there to find out they decided to mark it up......that is shady as hell anyway you look at it.

BlackJester

I don't think so, but they make a decent point.

I still don't think it's cool that youre LGS gave you the impression that you were going to get one for $35 then jacked the price. That's just rude sauce!

I believe that WotC said somewhere back that the From the Vaults were thank you presents to the local stores. That's why they only give them to stores that host FNMs. I would find it for you but I don't know where.

cltrn81

I also read somewhere that wizards said the intention of FtV was to let players get to use cards they normally can't get easily.  I looked for it but I can't find it either.
